Job Title: Group Exercise Instructor (Cycle, Core, HIIT) 
Reports to: Group Ex Director
Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Mondays/Fridays 5:45 am – 6:45 am   
Department: Group Ex

Position Summary:
Instructing group exercise classes to Columbia Athletic Clubs members and guests, providing customer service to our members and keeping members safe during exercise are the main duties of the Group Exercise Instructor.  This position requires dedication to their classes, members, and to all other instructors.

Critical Success Factors:
  • This position is expected to research and stay current with group exercise trends, moves, and choreography.
  • Position requires a positive attitude, motivational / leadership abilities, and ability to develop and maintain clientele.

Essential Duties:
  • Instruct a safe and effective group exercise class. 
  • Responsible for maintaining aerobic studio safety and cleanliness, including equipment. 
  • Be fully prepared for class: on time (10 – 15 minutes early), music cued, format developed and make sure equipment is ready.
  • Attend staff meetings when held.
  • Attend local and national workshops/conventions to keep current in the industry.
  • Keep certifications current by continued work on yearly CEC’s.
  • First Aid and CPR skills should be used if necessary.
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge of and incorporate into the department the history of our organization, knowledge of other facilities and personnel, our vision, core values and be able to impart this knowledge, lead and develop staff that supports these principles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills And Abilities Required:
  • Extensive knowledge of injury and medical conditions and the ability to provide modifications to contraindicated exercises.
  • Professional qualities must include reliability, flexibility, and ability to be a team player to support the success of the entire program.   
  • Ability to interact effectively with people, teaching and motivating them in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Ability to arrive on time for classes.
  • Ability to problem solve to service members needs.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Well organized and accurate in the handling of paperwork and record keeping.
  • Available to work varied schedule including nights and weekends.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in group exercise.
  • ACE, AFAA , NDEITA, YMCA or ACSM certified.
  • CPR required.
  • Knowledge of facility emergency procedures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, hear, talk, climb stairs, reach with hands and arms; operate office machinery (calculators, phones, cash registers) operate a computer and keyboard.  The employee may be called upon to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
